NFL head coaches – Do they care about the preseason?

First off let me say that NFL preseason football has always been for the most part a huge success for me as a handicapper. I can remember a few tough years – but for the biggest part of my career its been very profitable.

Many people look at these NFL preseason games in different ways and I feel the way you do look at the games is the key to winning them or losing them. You cant know exactly how long each starter will play or how dinged up a guy is or who wants the last roster spot the most or who will be showcased the most or who will just have a terrible game. However the head coach knows that info, or has a better idea than we do and although every year and each game is different – you can look at his record in preseason games and make a case to who has done what.

Its simple some coaches care less if they win these games or not as they feel like its useless and would rather evaluate their talent from down to down instead of if they won or lost a meaningless game. But lets be real – most of us are interested in who wants to win these games since they do have meaning to us!

I know if I was a coach I would like to win the games, would I risk severe injury to one of my stars for a preseason win? No – but injuries happen even win or lose and are never foreseen. But that’s a moot point since I’m a handicapper and not a coach, I want and need to know the coaches that want to win and those who could care less.

I will also add that even though a coach may want to win these games vs. a coach that could care less it does not always make for a sure shot winner, because like every game players play and coaches coach.

I have listed all the NFL teams beside their current head coach and that head coaches preseason record, the numbers are not ATS but straight up. These are the records coming into the 2014 preseason and not updated with what has happened thus far this season.
