March Madness is just that! We all know who made it into the big dance and who will compete for the NCAA National championship. Also it’s time to fill out your brackets for office pools and its always a great time for college hoop junkies.
Many casual college basketball fans are also aware of the NIT or National Invitational Tournament that will start tonight and will feature its version of the final four in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
But many are unaware of two other tournaments that will begin tonight as well (CIT & CBI).
CIT or the College Insider’s Tournament began in 2009 featuring a 16 team tournament and last year increased the field to a 24 team tournament.
This year the CIT has expanded again to a field of 32 teams. The tournament are on site games and after first round the home sites are determined by seeding.
The CIT selection committee is full of ex college coaches, professionals and even a pair of NFL players.
Some of the committee members are Lefty Driesell, Pat Flannery, Larry Little, Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson, & Lou Henson to name a few.
Note that Antonio Gates of the SD Chargers was a former all American at Kent St. & his former team mate and current TB Buccs star was a former all American for Northern Colorado – both as basketball players.
Two games previously scheduled for tonight (Fairfield @ Kent St. & North Dakota @ Northern Iowa) has been postponed till Wednesday due to bad weather.
